Death of a Vinyl junkee documentary

"Is Hip Hop Dead????   ....DJ Maintain"

"Yes maintain, you said what i been thinking for the past 6 years or more.......I agree, Hip Hop is dead (with a few emcees resuscitating it from time to time) . I still look forward to hearing artists like: Talib Kweli, Common, Q Tip, Kanye, Nas, Little Brother, Slum Village, Foreign Exchange....so there is hope for us Hip Hop heads yet. but you know me, im old school, and my expectations of Hip Hop is high so I doubt if any new school emcee could take me to that place when I first heard ..."They Reminisce over you.." or "Rebel without a pause" or "Times up" or "So whatcha saying....." lol im getting carried away here. But hey maybe im asking too much??   ....Dj Soops"

That was a conversation between two old school Hip-Hop heads dated Nov 27th 2006 (note: before Kanye went all pop on us lol), which in turn led me to film a documentary in the summer of 2009 called "Death of a Vinyl Junkee".  It featured a few like minded friends who are passionate about music.  I  tried to re-capture what it was like to hunt for that treasured 12" single on vinyl, by visiting certain places we used to go to before the digital revolution took its stranglehold.  I also visited a local radio station (Westside 89.6), my local dj shop formally known sapphires(http://www.decks.co.uk/), and record shops Dub Vendor (http://www.dubvendor.co.uk/) and music & video exchange(http://www.mveshops.co.uk/).  Thanks to all shops for allowing me to film, I appreciate it!

The last day of filming took place at my house, where we had a 'round-table' discussion about all things music.  What made me laugh was....I texted everyone, a week previous to the occasion saying that I would provide the refreshments and munchies (Supermalt and Pringles to me lol) but on the day everyone proceeded to destroy the Disaronno(Amaretto) and Baileys much to the girlfriends disgust!!! lol
Nevertheless I was very pleased with the outcome and would like to thank everyone for attending especially Sam who manned the camera for about 4 hours with no complaints...Big up!!!

Death of a Vinyl Junkee, a Documentary by Dj Soops about the dying out of Vinyl and Hip-Hop... Featuring Classic tracks from: Kanye West, ZIon I, Dwele, J Dilla, 9th Wonder, Liv Warfield, Noel Gourdin, Common, The Ojays, Pete Rock & CL Smooth, EPMD, Grover Washington Jnr, Termanology, Dj Revolution, Nas, CNN, Memphis Bleek, Alchemist, Jake One, Kool G Rap & Polo, Foreign Exchange, Gangstarr, Kool & the Gang, Amp fiddler, Roy Ayers & others.
You can check out the Intro sequence here....

In fact, when I originally had that conversation with Dj maintain....(see above) I failed to mention certain other producers such as; 9th Wonder, Jay Dilla(r.i.p), Dj Spinna, Black Milk.....who's records still keep the fire burning for Hip Hop.  Also, I just recently discovered an artist called Fashawn, who's debut 2009 album 'Boy meets World' is ridiculously off the chain and I would recommend that if you only bought one album in 2009....make sure thats the ONE...

Peace...Dj Soops
